Employees from QBE Insurance Limited, including Sandy Ribbins, Julia Ravera, Celia Robinson and Lucy Bodycombe spent 10 hours in Bank tube station collecting for Macmillan on Friday 4 October.
Fellow staff members collected around Lloyd’s Building and extra staff were called in to help with lunch breaks and counting the money donated on the day.
The dedicated team and generosity of the general public meant that an incredible £3546 was raised on the day which was then match funded by QBE, meaning the final total reached £7092. This will make a huge difference to Macmillan Cancer Support and is enough to fund a Macmillan specialist nurse for seven weeks.
Sandy commented, 'It was a long day but the enthusiasm from the volunteers and the passion from the general public was infectious. Through the day we heard how Macmillan had touched so many people’s lives, including a Big Issue seller who donated some of his takings as Macmillan had helped his family.
'We also saw firsthand the kindness of the public, with Prêt donating free coffee and pretzels for volunteers and a kind cab driver offering to drive volunteers back to the office free of charge. We're hoping to develop a QBE team for Macmillan’s mass collection day in May 2014 and welcome any other employees to join us so that the collection team can grow and raise even more money for a great cause.'
Leyla Onal, fundraising manager commented, ‘The team spirit and effort from every QBE staff members involved was incredible. From smiling to dancing and shouting their support for Macmillan, they really did pull out all the stops. An incredible effort, thank you!'
