Jubilant row event

£820 was raised in memory of my late wife Kathryn McLaren, who lost her three year battle against breast cancer in January 2012.

Macmillan nurses helped my wife in West Middlesex Hospital, Charing Cross Hospital, Meadow House Hospice, Derwent Lodge Care Centre and myself since her death.

So in recognition of Macmillan Cancer Support's sterling work and with the support of the Crew of the Queens Royal Rowing Barge 'Jubilant' and the staff of the 'Ye Olde Swan' Pub' we are helping raise money for chosen charity Macmillan Support. So on Saturday 25 September the crew of 'Jubilant' gave members of the public a chance to row, steer or ride on the boat for a donation of £3.50 each, for a 30 minute, 2 mile row from the Pub's Pontoon to Hampton Court Bridge and back on the Thames from Noon to 8pm.

'Jubilant' is a replica of Henry VIII Royal Barge built in 2002 by Mark Edwards, of Richmond as a gift for the Queen's 50th Jubilee. Jubilant has been the second boat in the two main events behind Gloriana in the Jubilee river pagent and the Thames Olympic Torch Flotilla and is used to take youth and adult groups out on the River Thames at Richmond for a traditional rowing experience.

£405 was raised from rowing trips, £115 from pub and the staff tips and the rest of the donations from people who could not attend the event.
