Three ways Macmillan supports people living with cancer in London

1. Help with money worries
   When you’re too ill to work, money worries can be a huge problem, which is why Macmillan gave more than £470,000 in small grants to people with cancer in London last year. They paid for anything  from hospital car parking charges to a family day out.
   
   'Macmillan made see there was light at the end of the tunnel. Without their help I would’ve gone bankrupt and would’ve had to sell my house. The kind of stress this brings is the last thing you need when you’re trying to get better.'

2. Health and social care professionals
   In London there are more than 500 Macmillan nurses, doctors and other professionals-such as dietitians and social workers-helping to make living with cancer easier at every stage of the illness. They support people living with cancer and their familes, from diagnosis through to treatment and afterwards.
   
   'When I have bad days and find myself thinking "why me" my Macmillan nurse pulls me up from the low. She's excellent - when I was having chemo she came and chatted to me and even now if I’m feeling down I can call her and she’ll always ask what she can do for me. She rings me all the time to see how I’m coping.'

3. Clear information and someone to talk to
   When you’ve just found out you’ve got cancer it can be hard to take everything in or  think of the right questions to ask. At Macmillan’s information centres trained advisers ensure people affected by cancer receive the support and information they need.
   
   'After I was diagnosed with breast cancer, my life slowly fell apart. I thought I was coping, but a day came when I could no longer pretend. Thanks to Macmillan I feel supported and have turned my life around. I found work advice on the website, called the telephone line for benefits help and now share my cancer experience with others as a Cancer Voice.'
