Elizabeth Wright from Macmillan Cancer Support and Eve Jackman, Outreach Co-ordinator, celebrate the launch of the Outreach service.
Macmillan Cancer Support and Great Oaks Hospice have launched Outreach, a new service that supports people living with cancer, at an event in the Acorn Suite at the hospice.
Outreach, funded by Macmillan for its first three years, offers a new way of supporting people living with cancer and their families. It offers help accessing benefits and financial support, respite for carers, provides emotional and psychological support and even help with travelling to hospital or shopping.
Elizabeth Wright, Macmillan Development Manager, said:
‘When someone is diagnosed with cancer it doesn’t just affect their health, it impacts on their whole life. Just knowing that there is someone who can help with getting the shopping, or be there to talk to, can mean a lot to cancer patients and their families.’
Eve Jackman, Outreach Co-ordinator, said:
‘We also have very good links with other support services in the area and can point people in their direction for further help.’
Outreach can be reached through the Great Oaks Hospice by calling 01594 811910. The service is open 9am – 4.30pm Monday to Friday. You can also access Outreach at the Great Oaks Hospice shops.
Drop-in sessions at the shops run from 1pm – 2.30pm at the following shops:
Cinderford - 1st Friday of the month Coleford - 1st Thursday of the month Newent - 2nd Monday of the month Lydney - 3rd Tuesday of the month Newnham - 4th Wednesday of the month
