Matty (9) and his dad Ian walked 20 miles of the ‘Macmillan way’ from Edge Hill, Warwickshire to Stow-on-the-Wold Gloucestershire.
They braved driving rain, icy wind, drizzle, fields of mad cattle, muddy streams, fields, woods, footpaths, 3 pubs, 1 tea stop, blisters, and braying donkeys waking them up in the night. They camped at Long Compton, all whilst wearing bright green Macmillan T-shirts!
Matty, his Dad, Beth Whittaker (12) and Megan Davies (11) did the whole walk of 20 miles, but they were also joined by 29 other friends for different legs of the walk. The only time they got lost was in the pub! The motivation to do the walk was that Lucy, Matty’s 15 year old sister is being treated for cancer at Birmingham Children's hospital, and has received support from Macmillan nurses there, their Granny Jo, sadly passed away last year from Pancreatic cancer, and had also received wonderful care from Macmillan Nurses. Altogether they have raised nearly £1500!
A Big Well Done to the Speechley family and friends (including all the children!), for taking part in 'Matty's March for Macmillan' they all did brilliantly!
