The Essex team collecting the cheque
Benfleet Running Club raised a fantastic £2,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support through the Kirste 5 Memorial Race.
On Sunday 29 July 2012, Benfleet Running Club in Essex held a race in memory of their dear friend Kirste Bowman who lost her battle to breast cancer this year. Organisers at the running club only had 12 weeks with which to organise the run and did a fantastic job raising a grand total of £5,000 which was split between Macmillan Cancer Support and Bosom Pals.
The event was attended by Macmillan volunteers including Sue Blunt, Macmillan’s Challenge Events Coordinator, and was also well supported by the local press. Given the success of this year’s event, the running club now plan to make the Kirste 5 memorial race an annual event.
If anyone is interested in attending the race next year or would like to find out more about the Kirste 5 cause please visit the Benfleet Running Club website|.
