Exeter care assistant Nicola Kefford helped celebrate Macmillan's fantastic centenary milestone with a double event, a group sponsored leg wax for the men and a sponsored walk for the ladies.
The fundraising festivities were centred on the General Buller public house in Cowick Street on Saturday 29 January with the leg wax beginning at 2pm. Everyone was invited to join in the fun.
Nicola said before the event, 'I had a lot of stomach pain last Christmas and had an x-ray. By March an ovary had been removed because a tumour had been found. Weeks of chemotherapy followed and I lost my hair. I have a six year old and Macmillan helped me with a grant of £400 towards childcare and travel - my treatment was in London because I had a rare type of cancer.
'I decided I wanted to give something back to enable Macmillan to help other people like me and a friend, Will Tucker, helped mobilise a team of lads who were willing to subject themselves to a leg wax. The ladies also got involved by doing an eight mile sponsored walk from Dawlish finishing in time to see the guys suffer! I'm very grateful to the General Buller and H20 hair salon for making it all possible. We're confident we can raise at least £1,000 between us through donations and sponsorship.'
