During February volunteers for Macmillan were able to hold a collection at every performance of Holiday on Ice's latest production, Energia.
Thanks to the generosity of everyone who attended, a record £9,026 was collected – taking Macmillan’s collections at Holiday on Ice to a total of £55,140 over eight years.
Sarah Toms, Events Manager from Westpoint said: ‘I am delighted by the continuing generosity of everyone who contributed to this wonderful collection for Macmillan. While we had more Holiday on Ice performances this year, to have improved on last year’s collection by 50% is remarkable.’
Caroline Grafton-Grattan, Macmillan’s County Chairman, said: ‘What better time to pass such an important milestone than in Macmillan’s centenary year! The charity is currently investing more than £2million in new cancer care projects and services in Devon and Holiday on Ice is by far the most important collection for Macmillan in the south-west. My sincere thanks go to Sarah and her colleagues for making this centenary block buster possible.’
Kelly Hayman Bruce organises Macmillan’s Holiday on Ice collections, mobilising 100 volunteers during the week of the performances.
Kelly said: 'Among our volunteer collectors was a team from HSBC who were paid to collect for us; this will boost our total by another £1,190. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to our record collection, our volunteer collectors and, of course, Sarah and her colleagues for their continuing support. Sarah’s team are superb, highly accommodating and they really get involved – they make a huge difference to our success.'
