The Co-operative Funeralcare at Moorview Home in Barton recently sent another in memoriam gift to Macmillan Cancer Support, which took the grand total of the money they've raised to £11,343.
The Co-operative has funeral homes throughout South Devon, but the Moorview Home has been Macmillan’s best supporter.
Funeral home manager Darren Wright said: ‘It is now very popular for families to request donations in lieu of flowers and very often the family know which charity they want to benefit. However, if not, we are very happy to show them a selection of good causes, which includes Macmillan. Families choose them if it seems appropriate, in view of the good work they do.
'We are particularly interested in their recently created tribute fund site to provide a permanent place in which people can remember their loved one, share memories and support others. Passing on donations to charities like Macmillan is one of the nice things we do.’
On the receiving end, Macmillan’s Calvin Lovelock said: ‘I am most grateful to Darren and his colleagues and especially their clients for their wonderful support – tribute gifts in memory of a loved one do much to sustain our vital work. In this special year, Macmillan is part way through a £2 million investment in new cancer services and projects in Devon, including a speech and language therapist for Torbay Hospital to help patients who have difficulty speaking or swallowing after surgery or radiotherapy.
