Judy and church group
Friends of Judy Grice create a quilt in her memory.
Members of St Patrick and St Bridget R.C. Church in Clay Cross have raised £620 by creating a quilt in memory of their friend Judy Grice who died of Breast cancer in 2010.
For a number of years Judy had been involved with St Mary’s R.C. High School PTA in Chesterfield and is described as an inspiration to her two girls, husband and the pupils she worked with at Shirland Primary School.
Close friends, Marianne Holland, Sue Howe and Sheila Nyland knew of her love for cross stitching, knitting and sewing and felt compelled to do something in her memory. Together with the church community, they got to work in making the quilt.
Marianne explains: 'The care that Judy had received from staff working with cancer sufferers had been wonderful so we decided to raise money to help other people dealing with breast cancer.'
She continues: 'As well as making and raffling the quilt off, we held cake stalls, pound stalls and raffles. We raised over £1240 which we split between two charities and awarded £620 to Macmillan in recognition of the support they provided to Judy and her family.'
The Church presented the cheque to Roger Wood, an ambassador for Macmillan Cancer Support, who thanked the group for their hard work and explained how the money they raised will go towards helping other people living with cancer
