Local lads raise money for Macmillan
Neil Carpenter and sixteen of his friends decided to do a C2C on the 20th, 21st and 22nd May as a close friend is being treated for throat cancer. Macmillan has helped him through the difficult times. He especially found the chat rooms / forums provided by Macmillan a great deal of help.
The friend who was having treatment actually recovered enough to drive one of the support vans during the weekend. And he was greatly needed, as none of the seventeen riders are in a cycle club, and a few hadn’t sat on a bike for 15 years.
Although the starting point at Workington was wet, the groups spirit was not dampened. They received sponsor money from individuals as well as a few local companies; with Fox Racing very generously providing each rider with a mountain bike, t-shirt, gloves and socks.
The weekend was both enjoyable and successful in terms of sponsorship money. The event was over three days, with stops at Penrith, Rookhope and Weardale. The finishing line (Tynemouth) was a very welcome sight after 140 miles of cycling.
