South Tyneside Charity Champions have clubbed together to raise thousands of pounds for the fight against cancer – and honour the life of a ‘little’ man who made a big impression on everyone he knew.
Whitburn and Marsden Social Club stalwart Ronnie Hendry died in August at the age of 63, after battling lung cancer for six months.
But his legacy will live on after pals at the club held a charity night in his honour, collecting an impressive sum of more than £3000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Joe Brettell, who organised the event said: 'We raised £3090, and everyone at the club would like to really thank all the people and shops in Whitburn for their support. Not one business in the area didn’t help out. As soon as everyone knew it was for Ronnie, they wanted to be involved. He was a very popular person.'
