Macmillan Cancer Support Cornwall has received over £20,000 thanks to the marathon efforts of an intrepid group of Cornish business people.
The eight members from across the county completed the gruelling 26.2 miles in the New York Marathon to raise money for Macmillan. And with fundraising now complete the team handed over a cheque for £22,530.36 to Macmillan’s area fundraising manager for Cornwall and Devon, Judith Jolly.
Peter McGahan, Worldwide Financial Planning's managing director, said:
'It was a fantastic effort of all involved, not only to complete a fantastic marathon in the Big Apple, but to raise such an amazing amount of money for a charity that is close to my heart. 'I think everyone would agree that the fundraising was probably harder than the training, especially as the world went into recession as we kicked off the campaign, but we had some fantastic and generous support which helped us. 'And we’ll all remember the atmosphere of New York.” Running alongside Peter were independent financial advisers Chris Rowe and Robert Stancliffe (both Worldwide); Stephane Delourme, head chef at Rick Stein’s Seafood Restaurant; Morris Pasties managing director, Chris Morris; Dan Jones of Excess Energy; and mpad’s husband and wife team, Rachel and Mark Picken.

'The whole team at Macmillan in Cornwall are really proud of the efforts of the team. They did themselves and Macmillan proud. 'And what's great about their efforts is that all the money will go to help the lives of those affected by cancer.'

The team are already preparing to put together a new group for 2010 which will be equally as special. Donations can still be made by visiting www.justgiving.com/worldwidemarathon.
