The Dobson family with the March and Chatteris Macmillan Cancer Support team
More than £13,000 was raised for March and Chatteris Macmillan Cancer Support by Mr Dobson’s wife Gill and children Claire and Andrew at a garden party staged at the family home in Orchard Road South in June.
The event, which included live music, a hog roast, and a host of other entertainment was organised after Mr Dobson expressed a dying wish to do something to help the charity.
Mr Dobson died last year at the age of 68 having battled with Mesothelioma - a cancer caused by asbestos. His daughter Claire said her father had expressed a desire to help the charity through a garden party in his memory.
The family spent many months planning the event, which gained huge support from local businesses including Mark Petrou of Petrou Brothers' fish and chips, who donated a hog roast for up to 500 people.
More than 400 people attended the party, which also included strawberries and cream and Pimms.
The family, handed over the cheque for £13,018.19 to Macmillan’s March and Chatteris committee were overwhelmed by the amount of support they received.
