This year more than 3,000 people in Buckinghamshire will be told they have cancer. We'll make sure they won't have to face it alone. We're there for someone from the time they suspect they have cancer, during their treatment, and for as long as we're needed after that. We also support carers, friends and family members. Someone to talk to We provide emotional support and free, high-quality cancer information about the disease and how to live with it – at our information centres and on the Macmillan Cancerline (0808 808 2020).
Financial assistance Not everyone will know that after being diagnosed with cancer, people can face many unexpected extra costs, such as increased heating bills and travel to and from hospital. Macmillan helps people struggling to meet these costs. Lost weight because of treatment? Just over £7000 was awarded to people in Buckinghamshire last year who needed help purchasing new clothes. Just over £6,500 was given to people struggling to pay fuel bills. In total 161 people in the county received Macmillan grants totaling £55,000 – up from £44,000 to 124 people the year before. We are currently funding two more benefits advisors to address this need.
