Jaqui Elmer and cake competition winner Peter Miller
This year was, Jacqui Elmer’s of Avon & Somerset Constabulary, sixth year hosting a Coffee Morning and the day was a massive success. Held at the Avon & Somerset police Headquarters in Portishead; and with about 250 people attending, Jacqui and co host Rosemary Allmont raised an amazing £1300.02p for World’s Biggest Coffee Morning 2009.
Jacqui said:
'This is my sixth year organising coffee morning, the first year we didn’t even raise £100... and now, well - we must beat £1,300.02 next year!'
While most were enjoying their mugs of coffee and taking part in raffles, Superintendent Chris Ware had a very serious matter to take care of - judging the 17 entries in the cake competition! Peter Miller won with his delicious dark chocolate and Guinness cake, winning a bottle of champagne for his efforts.
Jacqui started holding coffee mornings for Macmillan in 2003, when sadly her mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She passed away in 2004.
'The support we, as a family received was amazing. We couldn’t have got through it without the support of Macmillan. I lost my lovely dad to lung cancer in May 2009 and once again, Macmillan was there to provide the support only they can.'
Without people such as Rosemary and Jacqui we could not do the work we do to help people affected by cancer, their families and carers. A big thank you goes out to our hosts for their continual support over the past six years.
