The challenge will be tough at times but you'll return with a real sense of pride in your achievement, and a bunch of new friends.
Make your way to Glasgow for about 2.30pm where you will be met by your Macmillan representative and the Discover Adventure crew. From here we take the 2-3 hour coach transfer to our hotel near Fort William. Alternatively, you are welcome to make your own way to Fort William for about 6pm. After settling in we will enjoy an evening meal together and have a full briefing on the weekend’s events.
After a good breakfast, we begin our ascent of Ben Nevis. It can take between 6 to 8 hours depending on weather conditions.
After a quite steep start, we climb steadily to Lochan Meall an t-Suidhe, where we leave the green landscapes behind us as we tackle the famous Zig Zags – a well-maintained section that criss-crosses the steep, stony mountain-side, and finally cross the boulder field to the summit cairn. Time to rest and reflect, hopefully in clear skies, before beginning our descent.
It can be rather chilly at the top as the summit averages 9 degrees colder than the base. Coming down is less arduous and much quicker, but is still tough, particularly on the knees. We return to our hotel for a well-deserved meal and celebratory drink or two!
After breakfast we head back by coach to Glasgow Central Station for about 1.30pm. Here we say our goodbyes before heading home with some awesome memories of the challenge.
