Find the answers to your questions about Ride London here.
RideLondon 100 takes place on Sunday 4 August 2013 starting at the London 2012 Olympic Park and finishing on The Mall.
20,000 amatuer cyclists can take part in the RideLondon 100. It is anticipated that the event will be over-subscribed so a ballot will be held to allocate places.
The ballot for RideLondon is now open. Apply for your place at www.ridelondon.co.uk|. Please remember to select Macmillan Cancer Support as your chosen charity. The ballot will shut by 4 January 2013 or when 75,000 people have applied for an entry.
The successful entrants will be informed in early February 2013 that they have a place in the inaugural event. If you are successful please sign up to Team Macmillan. There is no minimum sponsorship amount, we just ask you to raise as much as you possibly can.
You can apply for a Team Macmillan Golden Bond place, for which we ask for a minimum sponsorship pledge of £500 (not including Gift Aid). Simply complete and return the application form on the Join Team Macmillan| page. We will begin allocating our Golden Bond places following the results of the official RideLondon ballot, which will be announced at the beginning of February 2013.
You will need to contact us after this ballot announcement to confirm that you still want to continue with your application or let us know if you were successful in the ballot. Please email cycling@macmillan.org.uk| or call 020 7840 7875.
We ask that all our charity guaranteed place (golden bond) runners pledge to raise a minimum of £500 (not including Gift Aid). This will be due ONE month after the event (September 2013). Of course, we'll give you all the encouragement and support you need to smash that target.
When you join Team Macmillan you will be supported throughout your entire event experience. In addition to our initial fundraising pack, we'll send you regular newsletters with tips to help you prepare for the big day. And if that isn't enough, we will have cheer points to offer a well-deserved congratulations at the end of your event.
The RideLondon 100 is a perfect ride for club & recreational cyclists. Slower cyclists can enjoy a challenging ride while faster riders will relish the opportunity to pit themselves against the country’s top amateurs. Riders must be at least 18 years old to take part in Ride London 100, although the Freecycle event on Saturday 3 August is open to all ages.
All participants will need to be able to finish the 100 miles within 9 hours. Participants will be seeded, with their starting position indicative of ability and fitness, to ensure a safe and enjoyable event for all.
If you do not already cycle on a regular basis you will need to commit to a considerable amount of training during the preceding months. A full training programme will be included in your fundraising pack.
Any type of standard bike is suitable for RideLondon so use the style you are most comfortable with. The only condition is that it is in good, working order! The route will take place on roads so a road/racer style bike is best suited and will make the ride easier.
If you are injured while training we recommend you contact your GP or a specialist sports injury clinic. They will be able to advise you if you are fit enough to take part. If you do need to withdraw you will need to notify the event organisers as soon as possible. Please let Team Macmillan know that you will not be taking part.
If you get injured during the challenge, you will be supported by roaming medics and an experienced event crew who will be on-hand to help you out if needed.
