I’m Jon Lycett, I’m team leader of the financial guidance service for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The simplist way of explaining the service would be to explain that we’re here to give guidance on the financial problems that people affected by cancer specifically have.

At times like that it brings a lot of questions into sharp focus.

We can help in a variety of ways either by giving basic information or by helping to cut out jargon, or if someone really feels like they need our support then we can help them no matter how long it takes.

We work closely with many of the other services offered by Macmillan.

What makes us different is that we help people specifically with either their financial products that they might already have.So we help them with their pensions, insurance, their mortgages.

We can also help people who may have already had cancer who need to understand what their options are in terms of what’s available for them in the market place.

The service differs from many other services in the market, primarily because we are the only one that is here specifically to help people that are affected by cancer.

People come to us from a whole range of backgrounds.

We can help people who may have a very simple question regarding opening a bank account, through to fairly complex questions regarding pension arrangements.

We’ve helped people so far from a whole range of age groups, social backgrounds, from across the community.

People should come to us because we’re impartial, we’re free and we’re not here to sell products, we can simply guide people.

I would encourage anybody who’s affected by cancer, be it themselves or a loved one, to contact our number.

We have a team of people here, they’re experienced in the financial industry and they understand the sensitivities around cancer.
