An acoustic neuroma is a slow growing, benign (not cancer) brain tumour that develops in the nerve responsible for hearing - the acoustic or auditory nerve.
Even though it is benign, an acoustic neuroma causes problems as it grows, because it presses on the surrounding areas of the brain.
