Macmillan and Cancerbackup merged in 2008. Together we provide free, high quality information for people affected by cancer through our publications, website and phone service. Find out more|.
Find out how we produce our information|
This information focuses on the needs of older people with cancer. It talks about cancer and its treatment|, and about making decisions about treatment that are right for you.
Older people today are generally both physically and mentally fitter than previous generations, and many retired people enjoy a new lease of life. Being diagnosed with cancer at this time can therefore seem like a real blow. Cancer can affect your quality of life and many other parts of it. However, it’s important to remember that many people are cured and others are able to maintain a virtually normal life while living with cancer.
We hope this information will answer some of your questions and help you to deal with some of the feelings you may have. We can’t advise you about the best treatment for yourself because this information can only come from your own doctor, who knows your full medical history.
If you have any further questions you can speak to one of our cancer support specialists|.
For answers, support or just a chat, call the Macmillan Support Line free (Monday to Friday, 9am-8pm)
You can order the information in this section as a printed booklet from our Be.Macmillan site.
