Find out about our trial of a new way to give you information about cancer treatment in hospitals across England. This tool aims to help you make decisions about where to have your treatment.
More people are now being given the option to choose where to have treatment. We can’t advise you on where to have your treatment, but we can give you information to support this decision.
Information in this trial
For now we are testing this tool with information about services for people with colon and rectal cancer in England.
There is already a lot of information about hospitals and the services they provide, but not all of this is published in a way that is easy to understand and useful when you’re making decisions. We have taken information from different sources and presented it in a way that we hope will be meaningful for you. You can use this tool to find out more about a single hospital or you can compare hospitals if you are choosing between them.
You can find out more about the information we have used| and treatment options and information| for people with colon or rectal cancer.
On the Choosing your treatment and care homepage| there is a search box for you to enter your postcode, town, or the name of a hospital near you. This search will bring up a list of hospitals near you that provide treatment for people with colon and rectal cancer. You can select to see information about a single hospital, or compare up to three. If you start with fewer than three you can add others for comparison later on.
The information that we give about hospitals is taken from professional assessments and patient surveys. On every section there is the option to find out more about what the information means and where it comes from. We don’t make judgements about what is a good or bad service - any ratings we give are from the sources we use and are not the opinion of Macmillan.
We have tried to make the information as clear as possible, but there might still be a lot to take in. To help, you will find suggestions of questions you can ask your doctor or nurse if you choose to have treatment at this hospital. We also suggest other areas of our website that might give you other useful information.
We need your feedback to help us understand if what we are doing is useful. You can complete the survey| to tell us if there is anything in particular that is more or less useful. You can also complete a feedback form before you leave the pages. Your thoughts will be very helpful.
If the feedback is positive we will look to develop this type of information about other cancer types and for services in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
