The CCLG was formed in August 2006 following the merger of the UK Children’s Cancer Study Group and UK Childhood Leukaemia Working Party. The United Kingdom Children’s Cancer Study Group had begun in 1977 when a number of paediatricians who had been treating children with cancer joined together to form a group with the aims of improving the management of children with cancer and to advance the knowledge and study of childhood malignancy. The UK Childhood Leukaemia Working Party began around the same time.
The CCLG has over 650 members representing all the disciplines involved in the diagnosis and treatment of children with cancer. Most are based in one of the 21 CCLG treatment centres, where the majority of children are treated. Members of the Group meet regularly to discuss progress and to develop new forms of treatment. All of the activities of the Group are coordinated through the Data Centre in Leicester.
