Other treatments for cancer
There are some other treatments, which may be appropriate for some people. These treatments are only available in a small number of hospitals in the UK. If a treatment is suitable for your situation, you may have to travel a long way to have it.
Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy
HBO involves providing the body with extra oxygen and is sometimes used in clinical trials to treat a number of severe side effects of cancer treatment.
Photodynamic therapy (PDT)
PDT uses laser, or other light sources, combined with light-sensitive drugs to destroy cancer cells.
Radiofrequency ablation uses radiowaves to destroy cancer cells by heating them to high temperatures.
