Macmillan Cancer Support and npower have been working together since 2004.
2015 marks the 11 year anniversary of our award-winning partnership with npower. During this time we’ve been able to make a dramatic difference to 20,000 people affected by cancer, helping them keep warm through energy grants, energy bill write-offs, or advice on how to manage their energy bills better.
Our partnership has grown to be worth a staggering £11 million, a testament to the long-standing commitment that npower has made to supporting people affected by cancer with their energy bills.
Our partnership has two aims. The first is to work together to help people affected by cancer that are facing fuel poverty. The second is to engage npower employees in raising money to fund emergency fuel grants to help people affected by cancer keep warm, which is one of Macmillan’s vital services. This year, npower employees are raising money to fund Macmillan nurses.
And we’ve done this together in a number of ways:
Our joint Fuel Management Programme helps npower customers living with cancer by reducing their bills at a time when their income may have dropped. To date, npower has wiped over £2 million in debt and capped bills for over 2,400 npower customers, helping them to heat their homes.
npower also funds the Energy Advice team on the Macmillan Support Line, who take over 200 calls a month to help people living with cancer manage their fuel bills. Through this team, npower also funded 2,300 emergency fuel grants for people living with cancer in 2014, regardless of who their energy supplier was.
803 npower employees volunteered their time or fundraised for Macmillan in 2014.
To mark our ten years in partnership in 2014, 671 npower employees took part in the npower ‘Ten for Ten’ challenge. This included everything from the North Sea Dip, to a row across Lake Windermere, to a Coast to Coast cycle, to bungee jumping into a giant coffee cup for World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.
Eleven years into our partnership, npower employees continue to go above and beyond for Macmillan!
