Since Poundland announced Macmillan Cancer Support as their charity of the year in May 2009 the partnership has gone from strength to strength, with the retail store raising a phenomenal total of £529,185 to help improve the lives of people affected by cancer.
In 2012, up against nine other charities, Poundland staff and customers voted for Macmillan to be their chosen charity for a fourth year running, proving their commitment to our cause.
This year, Poundland are continuing to raise money for Macmillan through lots of exciting in-store fundraising activity, including selling Halloween and Christmas products. Additionally, to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee, a Crown pin badge will be going into stores in May.
Staff will also take part in World’s Biggest Coffee and participate in seasonal dress down days to help raise money for Macmillan.
Jim McCarthy, Chief Executive at Poundland, said: 'Macmillan Cancer Support is a fantastic charity to partner with. Staff and customers alike are moved by the cause and responded with passion to our call to get behind the fundraising efforts.’
'We recognise the importance of raising awareness and as much money as possible to support the hard work that goes in to helping both people diagnosed with cancer, as well as their family and carers.'
Charles Byrne, Head of Corporate Partnerships at Macmillan, added: ‘We are thrilled with the amount of fundraising activity from Poundland staff and we couldn’t be more impressed with their efforts and generosity."
