A team of 15 intrepid npower employees have taken on the challenge of climbing Kilimanjaro, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
The team will be heading out on the expedition to climb Africa’s highest mountain at the end of September and hopes to raise £50,000 for npower’s charity partner.
At 5,895 metres, climbing Kilimanjaro will be a physically demanding challenge. The trekkers will venture through the remote north-eastern side of the mountain and follow the Rongai route, taking seven days to acclimatise and reach the summit.
For the expedition, which will be led by npower’s CEO Paul Massara and Roger Hattam, the director of npower’s domestic retail business, thirteen npower employees were selected from across the business. Employees were asked to submit a video outlining why they wanted to do the challenge for Macmillan.
npower has been working with Macmillan for nine years and the partnership is valued at over £6m. Paul Massara comments, 'This year npower is supporting Macmillan’s Best Foot Forward campaign and our people are taking part in a range of events across the country, with the Kilimanjaro climb being the pinnacle!'
Lynda Thomas, Director of Fundraising at Macmillan Cancer Support says, 'I’m so grateful to all the staff at npower who will be taking on this intrepid Kilimanjaro climb in aid of Macmillan. The money they raise will go a long way towards helping us make sure that no-one has to face cancer alone, and I’d like to wish them all the very best of luck for their expedition.'
Donations to the Kilimanjaro team fund raising for Macmillan can be made via http://www.justgiving.com/companyteams/npowerkilimanjaro npower has agreed to match fund the total raised by the climbers.
