Gillian Merron MP, Public Health Minister has vowed to make carers a priority for vaccination against H1N1 swine flu in England.
Macmillan welcomes this decision. In a letter received by Carers UK| , Merron states, "household contacts of immuno-compromised individuals (i.e. people and carers living in close contact with individuals whose immune systems may be compromised due to disease, or treatment such as chemotherapy| ) will be the first to be vaccinated with the H1N1 swine flu vaccine".
This an important step forward. Prior to this carers had expressed anger that professional careworkers were to be offered the vaccine but not carers who are family or friends.
