To celebrate Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, official sugar partner Silver Spoon, the home-grown sugar people, has launched the Silver Spoon Local Little Hero Awards.
Silver Spoon and Macmillan Cancer Support are inviting people to nominate a young person under the age of 18 in their area who is believed to be a Local Little Hero. Whether they have supported community causes; helped care for a sick relative; or gone the extra mile for an elderly neighbour, now is the time for some well deserved recognition.
Master Pâtissier Eric Lanlard, star of Channel 4’s Baking Mad with Eric Lanlard, will be judging the entries and the ultimate Silver Spoon Local Little Hero will be presented with a cake baked by the man himself!
What’s more, 10 runners up will win a Silver Spoon baking hamper worth £75. Packed with all the ingredients needed for home baking, the hamper will come in very handy for hosting a Macmillan coffee morning!
Nominators can enter their worthy suggestions for a Silver Spoon Local Little Hero Award by describing their nominee in less than 100 words at www.macmillan.org.uk/littlehero|, the deadline is 20th September 2012.
Eric Lanlard said: “I am honoured to be supporting Macmillan's World's Biggest Coffee Morning. I am especially looking forward to judging the ultimate Silver Spoon Local Little Hero competition and baking the winning entry. Baking and eating cake should be a national pastime as far as I'm concerned, and what a great way to help raise much needed funds and to support the fantastic work of Macmillan Cancer Support.”
Taking place on 28 September, Macmillan Cancer Support’s flagship fundraiser the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning encourages people to get together with friends, family and colleagues to enjoy a slice of cake and a coffee and help raise over £10.8million to improve the lives of people affected by cancer.
Official sugar partner Silver Spoon is proud to be the only sugar grown in Britain, and with a great range of baking sugars and a passion for sweet treats, Silver Spoon products are a must have for a successful coffee morning.
To register to host a coffee morning (and to receive a Coffee Morning Kit) see macmillan.org.uk/maketime call 0845 602 1246 or text COFFEE to 88080.
Once the winner and runners up have been chosen, Macmillan will contact their local newspaper to share the story and photographs.
Winners will be announced on 22nd September and on this date the overall winner will be presented with their cake (baked by Eric Lanlard) at the Cake and Bake Show, Earls Court, London.
