To celebrate the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning for Macmillan Cancer Support, official sugar partner Silver Spoon, the home-grown sugar people, have launched the Silver Spoon Local Hero Awards.
Silver Spoon are encouraging readers to nominate someone who they think is a hero in their local community – whether it’s the local lollipop lady for keeping the kids safe, a carer who goes the extra mile or a neighbour who is always willing to lend a hand, now’s the time to celebrate them.
Master Patissier Eric Lanlard, star of Channel 4’s Baking Mad with Eric Lanlard, will be judging the entries and whomever he chooses to be the ultimate winner of the Silver Spoon’s National Hero award will be presented with a cake baked by the man himself.
What’s more, everyone who nominates someone in the Local Hero competition will be in with the chance of winning one of 12 Silver Spoon baking hampers worth £75.
If you want a slice of the action, just describe in under 100 words who you are nominating for the Silver Spoon Local Hero Award, why, and what you would bake them to say thank you. To enter just register to take part in The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. Visit www.macmillan.org.uk/Localhero| for more information. All entries must be in by Wednesday 31 August.
Macmillan’s flagship fundraiser the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning takes place on Friday 30 September and this year Macmillan are encouraging everyone across the UK to join in and bake to help raise £8.5million to help provide support to everyone affected by cancer.

Winners will be announced on Monday 5 September and on Monday 26 September, the national hero winner will be presented with their cake (baked by Eric Lanlard) for a press photo call.
