Commenting on the Health Select Committee’s social care report, Mike Hobday, Head of Policy at Macmillan Cancer Support, said:
'We’re pleased the Committee has acknowledged the strong opposition to plans to scrap vital disability benefits and hope this will lead to the proposals being removed from the Government’s White Paper. 'Inadequate social care for the growing number of people living with and after cancer results in costly and preventable admissions to hospital. 'A consensus must be reached on how the NHS and local government can work better when commissioning social care services for people living with cancer. It is only by investing in support in the community that we will substantially reduce the financial burden on the NHS in the long term.'
