Responding to the Department of Health’s announcement that NHS nurses in England will need to be trained to degree level from 2013, Philippa Palmer, Head of Healthcare at Macmillan Cancer Support, said:
'We support this move as it will help to increase the overall skills of nurses in England; enabling them to meet the ever-evolving needs of patients as well as raise the status of the nursing profession as a whole. 'There are two million people living with and after a cancer diagnosis in the UK today and in order for cancer patients to be given effective care and support, all nurses should be equipped with cancer training and knowledge. We would welcome these cancer skills being included in the degree course.'
