Responding to the Government’s Autumn Statement, in particular reference to the below inflation annual increase in benefits, Ciarán Devane, Chief Executive of Macmillan Cancer Support, says:
“We are extremely concerned by the Government’s announcement today concerning the cut in benefits and the impact this will have on cancer patients. Most cancer patients already face a sharp rise in costs and a drop in income associated with their life-threatening illness. They can little afford a further cut in income. “Macmillan will be looking at the true impact of these costs when the details are available. The Government must make assurances that cancer patients will not continue to face the brunt of these cuts.”
