Macmillan Cancer Support responds to a new study which predicts that unhealthy western lifestyles will result in a more than 75% increase in cancer incidence globally by 2030[1].
Elaine McNish, Physical Activity Manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, says:
“These new figures are alarming given that increasing incidence will contribute to an increase the number of people living with cancer across the globe. We estimate that 1.6 million cancer survivors in the UK are not physically active at recommended levels and therefore at greater risk of some cancers recurring and serious long term health problems[2]. “More than one in three of us will get cancer at some point in our lives. Macmillan wants public health commissioners and physical activity providers to provide opportunities for cancer patients to be physically active in the same way that they do for other long term conditions. This will aid recovery and give people a better chance of fighting off cancer for good.”
