“We are delighted that Lords protected vital support for cancer patients in a crucial Welfare Reform Bill vote. This is a vote for compassion and common-sense. “The Lords have stood up for cancer patients so they are not penalised simply because they have not recovered quickly enough from treatment. This vote could now signal a dramatic improvement for thousands of cancer patients who would no longer have a time limit on recovery to get back to work following their illness. “We hope that the Coalition Government does the right thing and backs this decision as the Bill reaches its final stages in Parliament. “We are also pleased that all disabled people will have at least two years to claim ESA (double the current time limit proposed in the Bill). This is a huge victory for the disability sector.”
