The Government has published the mandate for consultation that will be used to hold the NHS Commissioning Board to account. Duleep Allirajah, Head of Policy at Macmillan Cancer Support, says:
'We are delighted to see that the mandate places equal importance on all aspects of health and social care in England, including the emphasis on shared decision making. This makes such a difference to cancer patients’ lives. 'However it is vital the Government incentivises the NHS to place as much importance on living long term with cancer (or other conditions) and patient experience as on treatment itself. Without the correct incentives, the commitments made in this document could amount to very little.'
