Macmillan Cancer Support responds to new cancer incidence data from the Office of National Statistics showing a rise in the number of new cases of cancer in England.
Commenting on new cancer registration figures from the Office of National Statistics, Duleep Allirajah, Head of Policy at Macmillan Cancer Support, said:
“These new figures from the ONS show that the number of new cases of cancer registered in England has almost doubled over the past 40 years[1]. “We know that there are currently two million people living with, or beyond, cancer in the UK and that this figure is set to rise to four million by 2030. Whilst it's a cause for celebration that more people than ever are surviving after a diagnosis, the impact of cancer does not stop when treatment ends. Many patients feel abandoned by the NHS and struggle to cope with health and emotional problems alone. “We urge the NHS to recognise the long-term impact cancer has on people’s lives, plan better cancer services and develop more personalised care.”
