Responding to the NCIN study The influence of socioeconomic circumstances on survival after surgery for colorectal cancer, Mike Hobday, Director of Policy and Research, Macmillan Cancer Support, says:
“It is unacceptable that such a stark contrast exists between survival rates for bowel cancer patients simply depending on their wealth. More must be done to ensure that all cancer patients have the best possible chance of survival, whether poor or rich. “Macmillan Cancer Support is already committed to helping make this a reality. We spend a great deal of time visiting deprived areas in our mobile information buses to help those who would otherwise be unaware of bowel cancer symptoms to get the help they need to have the best possible chance of survival.”
