Commenting on Jeremy Hunt’s speech at the Conservative party conference today, Ciarán Devane, Chief Executive at Macmillan Cancer Support, said:
“Jeremy Hunt’s commitment to improving cancer survival is very welcome as we are a long way behind the best survival rates in Europe. This is especially true for older people. “The NHS must be incentivised to improve cancer survival. That’s why it is odd the Commissioning Outcomes Framework, which the NHS is measured against, does not include one and five year cancer survival measures. “It is hard to believe the NHS will save the extra 5000 lives the Government expects if survival is not measured."
