Commenting on new research that shows an increase in cancer rates among middle-aged men and women, Mike Hobday, Head of Policy at Macmillan Cancer Support, said:
“It is really alarming that cancer rates in middle-aged men and women have increased this rapidly in a generation. Our recent research shows 42 per cent of us will get cancer and clearly more needs to be done to address this. The NHS needs to recognise that cancer is now a long-term condition and plan better services to help people manage the long term effects of the disease. They have a massive challenge ahead and need to become more effective in how they spend money on cancer care.”
