Macmillan Cancer Support has appointed Mike Hobday as its new Director of Policy and Research. The new Policy and Research directorate will enable Macmillan to be a leading and powerful voice in cancer and health, dedicated to ensuring we have the most robust and powerful intelligence, research and policy possible to support our influencing work to improve services for people affected by cancer.
Mike Hobday has been Head of Campaigns, Policy & Public Affairs at Macmillan since 2008. He takes up his new post on 7th November.
Ciaran Devane, Chief Executive at Macmillan Cancer Support says:
‘Macmillan has a huge ambition to reach and improve the lives of the two million people currently living with cancer. Despite our work, thousands of people with cancer still don’t receive the care and support that they need at the time they need it most. ‘There is still so much to change. People are still dying in hospital when they want to be at home, chances of survival can still come down to the type of cancer you have or your age, and people are still freezing in cold homes because they can’t afford their fuel bills. ‘We want to ensure everyone living with cancer gets the right support when, where and how they need it. But with the number of people living with cancer set to double from two to four million in the next 20 years, we can’t achieve this without influencing cancer policy and practice, and helping to shape future cancer services too. That is why we have created this new role which will further strengthen our research, insight and policy development. ‘Mike has a wealth of experience and knowledge which he will bring to this role and his appointment will help us deliver our ambition and inspire millions of others to do the same.’ ***Image available on request***
