On Saturday 6 June 2009, Halfords, the UK's leading retailer of cycles, leisure, in car technology, car parts and accessories, will be going green to hail the launch of a new partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support.
Staff from more than 450 branches will be doing anything from wearing green hats, wigs and clothing, to walking to work or painting their store manager green, to kick off the partnership and raise essential funds to improve the lives of people affected by cancer.
Over the coming year there is an array of fundraising activities planned, including car washing events and cycle challenges. Staff will also be supporting Macmillan’s summer fundraiser the Big Picnic and their flagship event, the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in September.
The money raised through the partnership, will help Macmillan to improve the lives of people affected by cancer by funding essential information services, emotional support, medical professionals and financial help.
As well as raising money, the partnership will play a vital role in helping to raise awareness of Macmillan’s information and support services for people affected by cancer – particularly to men who currently make up a much smaller number of service users.
David Wild, Chief Executive at Halfords said:
'We are very excited about our new partnership with Macmillan. There are a staggering two million people living with cancer in the UK and we hope that with the support of colleagues and customers at over 450 stores, we will be able to help Macmillan in their ambition to reach everyone that is affected.'
Charles Byrne, Head of Events and Corporate Partnerships at Macmillan said:
'We are really pleased to have been chosen as Halford’s new charity partner. Not only will it help to raise much needed funds for people affected by cancer but we hope it will help us to increase awareness of our services, particularly amongst men.'
