TV presenter Clare Balding is encouraging people across the UK to embrace the great outdoors this springtime and take part in Walk with us to help raise £900,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
‘Join me and thousands of others and hold your own Walk with us event to help raise £900,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support. It’s a great excuse to spend time with friends and family of all ages on a springtime stroll, whilst helping improve the lives of people living with cancer.'
Participants of all ages can take part - simply set a date, plan your route, then round up the kids, friends and dogs - the more the merrier! Charge them a small amount and have a fabulous day out walking. Failing that, there are 50 Macmillan organised Walk With Us events across the UK - all you have to do is rock up and walk!
Macmillan’s top ten tips for a fabulous family Walk with us event for Macmillan:
Pick and date and plan your route – Vary the terrain including woodland, moorland, streams and mudland to keep everyone entertained
Invite friends – let kids bring a friend to make it more fun for them
Wear the right kit - then the kids can splash around or get mucked up
Walks Bingo – create and offer a kids bingo card (for a suggested donation for Macmillan) so that kids can tick off a stream/ ladybird/aeroplane/picnic table etc.
Pack a picnic – make money for Macmillan by taking your own lovely picnic and drinks and selling them along the route
Take a dog - even if it’s not yours!
Have a race – to the top of the hill, to the end of the path, to the pub
Photography – challenge the kids to snap the highest point, biggest leaf, wildlife
Reward the walkers – end the walk at a pub (with a playground), or a train station (even better if there’s a steam train) so you can get that home
Two Million people are living with cancer in the UK. Each and every Walk with us event will help Macmillan’s ambition to provide vital support to everyone affected by cancer. This could be practical help with everyday tasks that become hard, to financial advice to help with the unexpected costs that cancer brings.
