Steve Sharp, Alesha Dixon and Ciarán Devane
Strictly Come Dancing star Alesha Dixon today joined forces with M&S Executive Director, Steve Sharp, to launch Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.
This year M&S is committed to raising £500,000, smashing its previous record haul of £400,000. It is expected that over 50,000 people will host their own coffee mornings tomorrow, with over two million people taking part to raise Macmillan’s goal of £8.5 million.
Alesha Dixon commented:
'This year’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is on track to raise a staggering £8.5million for Macmillan Cancer Support and to help them provide a vital range of support to people living with cancer in the UK. I’m delighted to help launch the event at M&S and wish everyone taking part around the UK a wonderful time and hope they raise lots of money for this incredible charity.'
Steve Sharp, Executive Director, Marks & Spencer commented:
'Every morning millions of Brits enjoy a cup of coffee over a chat with friends and family. It’s surprising how much money this simple act can generate for such a worthy cause that touches millions of people.'
Ciarán Devane, Macmillan's Chief Executive, commented:
'We are very grateful to M&S who have been an active, engaged partner of Macmillan Cancer Support. We would also like to thank M&S Café employees and customers around the UK who have already raised £200,000 for Macmillan, and who can help us even more - simply pop in to your local M&S Café on Friday and either treat yourself to a coffee or a cake, or pick up a pin badge or the ‘Little Book of Treats’, and help people affected by cancer.'
Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning calls on Brits across the country to gather with friends and family to hold a coffee morning. In addition to doing this, customers can also support the cause by going to 300 M&S Cafés nationwide and buying:
