Members of the Macmillan primary care community across the UK come together at least once a year at the annual Macmillan Primary Care Conference.
These conferences are held in addition to the learning and development events held for all Macmillan professionals.
The annual Macmillan Primary Care Conference provides the opportunity for members of the community to network, share innovations and learn about cancer in primary care across the UK. The event is hosted by the Macmillan GP Advisers Team, and is open to Macmillan GPs and primary care cancer leads, other primary care colleagues and Macmillan Cancer Voices.
This year’s annual Primary Care Conference took place on Wednesday 19 and Thursday 20 October 2011 at Lords Cricket Ground, London.
We were delighted to invite Linda Facey one of our Cancer Voices as a dinner speaker along with Stephen Creffield, from Evolve Training & Coaching Solutions. Linda spoke powerfully and movingly about her experience and treatment of ovarian cancer with Steve highlighting and demonstrating the power of storytelling.
Following the success of last year’s conference, it was great to have the opportunity to team up with the National End of Life Care Programme Team again.
The theme for Wednesday afternoon was specifically end of life care, focussing on updates to the National End of Life Care Strategy. There were interactive sessions on e-ELCA - End of Life Care Training for All and Macmillan’s Out of Hours Education e-learning course.
The themes for the second day covered many elements of cancer care within primary care; from early diagnosis of cancer, through treatment, survivorship and end of life and palliative care.
There were a number of interactive workshops covering:
There were also updates from the Macmillan GP Adviser team on current projects that they are working on.
