Community Networks Development Coordinator, East Midlands & North of England - Home based

Closing Date: 18/02/2008
Reference: 2227
Salary: circa 28,000 plus benefits

You don't need social or heath care experience to know how vital support groups are for people living with cancer and their families. They're forums in which challenges can be shared, ideas heard and emotions understood. If you're a diplomatic facilitator with a flair for bringing people together, you could soon be equally passionate about them here at Macmillan Cancer Support.

As part of the organisation that helps people through their cancer journey - from the moment they're diagnosed - this role sits at the heart of the services we provide. Joining our 25-strong regional service development team, you and another Community Networks Development Coordinator will help develop support groups across the East Midlands and North of England.

Having a background with an understanding of cancer would help and you'll have ample opportunities to learn at regular team meetings. It is more important to have worked with people from diverse backgrounds and you will be expected to travel around the region and have regular meetings in our offices in York and London. Some overnight stays will be necessary.

Success will be measured in the effectiveness of your groups – their confidence and influence in raising issues about users experience of cancer services. Your ability to support people affected by cancer so that they become empowered and enabled to speak and be heard in the right places is crucial.
